Workstations Not Yet Reported

$

I configured 3 machines have Windows 7 to get their updates from the local WSUS server, one of them could get its updates from WSUS, but the remaining two workstation under the Last Status Report are Not Yet Reported.

I run the following command on those 2 workstations:

wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow

wuauclt /reportnow

and then I wait too much time, and there is no change happens.

for your info the WSUS server and all these machines are on a workgroup.

what should I do to make them reported and started downloading updates from WSUS?

I've done a lot of searching on this but I still cannot find how to fix this.  Has anyone run into this before?  WSUS 3.0 SP2 was working fine on this 2008 R2 server.  I was thinking about Uninstalling/Reinstalling WSUS but I hate having to download all the security patches again due to bandwidth constraints.  Is there a way to reinstall WSUS without having to delete the WSUS folder and redownload all the patches?  Or is there an easy fix for this Windows Internal Database Issue? Will Microsoft Tech support help without us having to pay since it's dealing with security updates?

WSUS can't install update KB2834140

I have WSUS server with 500 PCs on it (Windows 7 SP1 x64).

200 PCs refused to install IE11. I found that needed for IE11 update is not installed on those PCs, is KB2834140.

KB2834140 has status Not Applicable.

I tried to install it manually on different PCs but with no luck.

How can I install it and why it can have such a strange status "Not Applicable"?

I have performed:

SFC /scannow

cleanup of a WU temp location

Investigated logs provided with System Update Readiness Tool (nothing special was found there)

Thank You!

Artur

How to generate a WSUS 3.0 report on a Win2008 Standard SP2 server that shows not installed/needed updates that were released prior to a given date?

Hi,

We recently switched over to WSUS.  We have 77 Windows 7 x64 Enterprise clients.

We're trying to find a way to display Not Installed / Needed updates that were released prior to a given date in a report.

So for example, we'd like to know which updates released prior to 1/9/2016 are still Not Installed/Needed for our machines.

Ideally the report would contain the computer name, update description and pertinent KB, and release date of the update.

Is there a way to do this?  I've tried using Powershell and it seems like the different Powershell objects are not really geared to do this in an intuitive way.

Thanks,
Erik

Skype for Business update through WSUS - Lync 2010

Hi all,

I have clients running Microsoft Office 2010 and Lync 2010

i am now to move them to SKYPE for Business. I need to install the skype for business client for them but they are 200 users.

I have their computer names & need to push these updates through WSUS.

Microsoft Office Updates have already been pushed to the clients but to install skype for business some security & critical windows updates are required.

Is'nt there any direct package that i can push through Wsus on these clients so that they are ready for skype for business.

Please advise.

Migrate WSUS and cleanup products/classifications

$

I’m looking at building a new WSUS server to replace an old one.  The old server had some old products/classifications that are no longer required so I’m also looking at cleaning these up so that the updates for these are not propagated to the replacement WSUS server. I have seen several other posts here about migrating WSUS but they were about a full migration rather than incorporating a clean-up.

I’m located in Australia which has expensive internet and very restrictive download quotas so I would like to download the old patches from the old WSUS server rather than use MS Update. After this I want to change the new WSUS server to point to MS Update for all new patches.

My plan was to build the new server specifying the old server as its source, butnot to make the new server a replica so I could change the products/classifications.

Building the new server went smoothly and it synched with old server happily. And here is where I come unstuck. Even though this is not a replica server, because I don’t sync with MS Update I can’t change the products/classifications on the new server. I get a message that this can only be done on the upstream server.

Is there any way I can get the new server to let me choose which products/classifications I want from the old server? On the old server I can easily ensure that the ones I don’t want are unchecked but how do I ensure that the patches for these unrequired products/classifications are not propagated to the new server?

I’m using Server 2008 R2

Thank You

How to manage Windows 10 Update Branches and Deferred Updates with WSUS?

$

What does WSUS have to manage staging updates for Current Branch vs Current Branch For Business vs Release Preview branches?

We can set target group of course, but how can you manage scheduling for different flights and branches in some kind of organized and efficient method that lines up with the different release schedules for each update branch?

For instance, how do you find which updates should be released to each branch and set the approvals to match?

Seems like it would be difficult to filter through the updates, set CBB target groups as Not Approved for four months and then remember to return to these updates four months in the future and then manually approve them and set a deadline.

Is there a better way?

Windows update error 80072EFD on clients on new WSUS 3.0 SP2 install

My previous post seems to have disappeared into the void in terms of getting responses, and in any case, the reason for the original post has evolved. This is the original post..

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/69754e08-7a2a-4481-bd0b-4edd725ff960/wsus-30-server-broken-cannot-sync-recognise-clients-clear-updates?forum=winserverwsus

I apologize if this is not the right way to do it, but I'm getting frustrated and anxious to resolve this issue and I really need your help.

The situation is this. When I install the Win 2008 R2/WSUS/IIS etc at home everything works fine. When I take the hard disk and install it in another server at another location all clients get the error 80072EFD.

I've uninstalled the WSUS role (including database, content etc) at the target location and reinstalled it to no avail, then brought that drive back home and tried it to find that it works perfectly.

The only difference hardware wise between the two servers is the Video card.

Network wise, I have a 192.168.1.1/24 network, whereas it is 192.168.0.1/24 at the other location. Infrastructure wise, things are essentially identical. 8 port gigabit switches from D-Link and/or Netgear and nothing else in between.

I use NBN fiber at home and the other location uses ADSL 2+

I've run the solarwinds diagnostic utility and I've checked my server settings via the WSUS documentation.

I've tried with firewalls turned off on clients and on server.

I can only go to the other location on the weekend, hence delays in responding.

I've been holding off plugging in my valid Win 2008 R2 Technet key because things aren't working properly. I don't want to waste the activation/key.

Please help.

Thanks

Tanya

Update: I have moved hist entire network to 192.168.1.1/24. Reconfigured all static devices, and set the server to exactly the IP address it had here at my place. Disabled firewall and malware bytes on server and client.

wuauclt /reportnow does not error, but the server does not detect the PC, and attempts to check for updates still get 80072efd. So got the SSD dropped off here, and tried again. It works perfectly.

God this is sooo frustrating :(

WSUS for a workgroup - Windows 2012R2?

Hi there,

I'm trying to enable WSUS in a workgroup scenario with Windows 2012R2 boxes in Azure.

Problems is after setting the client WSUS location to the http location of the azure WSUS Server (inthe local GPO) I am not able to see the computer within the WSUS console. I can get tothe fully qualified DNS Name of the WSUS server from the client in question ok but would appreciate any input on this. The Scenario doesn't seem very common on windows 2012.

Cheers,

Server 2012 and windows 8 clients not reporting?

$

I'm running WSUS on a 2008 R2 server, fully patched and up to date. Domain and Forest are 2008 R2 and all servers have the same group policy for updates.

I have four 2012 R2 servers and two windows 8 (latest version) clients. Non of these servers are reporting to the wsus server. All other servers (2008 R2) do report OK. I have followed Microsoft's troubleshooting steps and pass all steps without any issues, including testing with http://wsusserver/iuident.cab. I can download the file just fine.

What's weird is, I was able to get one of the 2012 servers to report, but only once. It hasn't reported since the first reporting.

Any ideas of what may be causing this? Like I said, the 2012 servers are using the same group policy that other 2008 servers are using, and the 2008 servers are reporting just fine.

Thank you.

We Hosted windows 2008 R2 SP1 server and hosted WSUS on it on nov 2014. Now we noticed that our newly added systems and newly added servers are not getting updates and getting error from JAN 2016. Windows could not search for new updates. But FEP updates are getting installed on all the servers from WSUS.

When i checked the events, found below mentioned error in the event logs of the wsus servers.

WSUS 3.2.7600 and Windows 7 Clients - Communication

Mr. Garvin,

I'm writing to you for help after spending hours online looking through threads for an answer to my dilemma. I pray that you have the knowledge to assist me. Thank you in advance for any effort and time you put into this.

I have a WSUS 3.2.7600.226 Server which is updated to the point where it says there are no more updates available.

I have about 200 Windows 7 clients that are in various stages of update.

I recently created a computer group called "Workstations Test" along with a GPO to push out WSUS configuration settings.

All the workstations in my test OU have received the GPO and I've verified the WSUS-related settings with rsop.

I have stopped and started wuauserv on my workstations.

I have run wuauclt /resetauthorization /reportnow on my workstations.

One of my workstations does not show up in the Status window.

One of my workstations used to have a Green Checkmark next to it, but now has nothing.

The rest of my workstations are displayed but with the Yellow Triangle and Exclamation point.

I have looked at the log from the workstation that does not display and do not see any errors.

I would be grateful for any assistance you could provide.

Does KB3114486 supersede KB3101360?

WSUS does not show KB3114486 as superseding KB3101360.

Microsoft Technet for the MS16-004 shows KB3114486 replaces KB3101360 in MS15-116.

The KB Article page for 3114486 also mentions that it replaces KB3101360.

This is the same for two other updates.

Should KB3114504 supersede KB3101499?

Should KB3114482 supersede KB3101359?

WSUS does not show the supersedence, but the documentation pages state they are superseded. Is this intentional?
