Client not downloading and installing windows update via wsus

Hello,  i have a WSUS upstream and downstream environment. The client machine are appearing in the upstream successfully.

I am testing client machine on 2012 R2, but when i approve a update with a deadline, the updates is not downloading and installing automatically. I have approve the updates as i can see it via the client machine when i run Check For Updates, but i thought i don't need to do this. for the WSUS registry, i have the following settings on the client side

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU]

"NoAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000
"AUOptions"=dword:00000004
"ScheduledInstallDay"=dword:00000000
"ScheduledInstallTime"=dword:00000000
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001

1- Download critical and security update, approve them then send to them to the computers on the networks

2- For every other updates, I want my client to open his windows update client, the client will connect to our server to check if there are updates needed. At that time, the downloads and installation will start. Please help

I think that if the updates are approved, they will be sent straight to our clients, i don't want that I want my client  to ask for updates.

Please help. I want to follow the approve update procedure with deadline set against the approval updates

WSUS integration plan

Hello friends.
My bosses gave me an assignment to make plan how to integrate WSUS server in our infrastructure.
So please help me with advise how to do it.
By now i install windows server 2012 and add WSUS role on it. Test the server in test environment and everything was good.
Now i have to accept WSUS updates in exchange servers and domain controllers, SQL servers and DMZ servers.
My question is which one will be first to update, if some update broke the server what should i do.
Our infrastructure is:
4 domain controllers - 2 with windows 2008 and 2 with windows 2012 R2
Exchange  servers(Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter) have 2 DAG-а with 3 mailbox servers and 2 client access servers.
We also have 20 child domains
So please what will be the procedure to update. I must use GPO suppose but tell me what is the right order
Thanks.

Windows 10 clients show as Vista on Windows 8.1 WSUS console?

I have a fully updated WSUS server running on 2012 R2 which correctly shows Windows 10 clients when logged onto the WSUS box itself.

From Windows 8/8.1 the Windows 10 clients show as Windows Vista and I cannot find a Windows Update that seems to address this on Windows 8, only the update for Windows Server 2010 R2.

Any suggestions please?

Why windows 8.1 in WSUS 3.2.7600.262 (lastest) report wrong version OS 6.3

$

In the console of WSUS into a Windows server 2008 R2, i have any clients in different version XP, 7, 8 and now 8.1 but for this client version 8.1 WSUS report a wrong version Windows 6.3 like first with Windows 8 --> 6.2

Microsoft resolved the problem for wrong version in WSUS console for Windows 8 and 2012 server, but the problem appear again with 8.1 and 2012 R2.

I'm afroid because this issue is know since Windows 8.1 preview exist...

I think there is a bug that not resolved by Microsoft because i have installed the last KB for WSUS : Version
3.2.7600.262

Also i googlelised this problem during 1 hour but i find nothing on this issue ?!  If in a Deutsch forum but anyone find an answer...

Thanks for your help.

Clear Declined Updates in WSUS 3.0 with SP1

Hi,

We are using SCE 2007 with SP1 with WSUS 3.0 SP1 on same server. We use SCE 2007 to approve and decline updates. I run the " Server Cleanup Wizard" on WSUS console.

I can still see 1800 updates which are already declined and are published from Aug 2008 to till date.

Is there any way to delete this DECLINED updates from WSUS.

Thanks for your time..

Performance issues after KB3159706

I'm facing severe performance issues on the WSUS server after deploying KB3159706 AND following all the steps in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706 except for the web.config part as we do not use HTTPS.

The Windows Internal Database and IIS Worker Process are taking up almost 100% of CPU all the time and around 70% of RAM.

This server has always been very stable with less than 70% RAM and idle CPU most of the time.

I noticed also this warning in the even log (#12 - Unable to find schema for config section 'system.xaml.hosting/httpHandlers'. This section will be ignored.)

Please advise

Installing latest version of WSUS offline

Hello,

I am attempting to install WSUS on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard box.  I'm a little worried as when I was installing WSUS through server manager it didn't seem to indicate a way to install updates offline.  The server I am configuring is to be completely offline and manages a small portion of offline PCs w/ AD.  Configuring such a server without Internet access has been challenging to say the least.

Is it even possible, with this version of WSUS, to upload Microsoft updates manually to then have WSUS disperse out the PCs in the offline AD environment?  It's looking like it may not be possible and I may have to try going with a 3rd party vendor such as BigFix.  Thank you for your help.

Some WSUS Clients fail to search for updates

We are running a few hundred PC's on our Network, we are distributing a new set of windows 7 PC's some of which do not look as though they are getting updated.

The WSUS Update service recognizes the PC's as Not yet Reported, they are imaged without sysprep but some of the machines are updating just fine.

I have tried everything I could find on the internet and checked every setting I could but I am new to WSUS.

Here is some of the Windowsupdate.log

WSUS 3.0 SP2 installation fails at "configuring database" step.

Attempting to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise system. I'm asking the setup to create a new database on one of our existing SQL Server 2005 systems. When the setup gets to the "configuring database" step it stops and throws "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." The two logs it suggests I look at are below. I'm not seeing any errors that mean anything to me.

Any direction you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I hope someone can throw me idea about my problem, so...

We have server 2012 R2 with WSUS - version 6.3.9600.17477.

Clients windows 10 Pro.

SCCM 2012 R2 - bits is not configured in default client policy.

GPO configured and policy applied successfully. Registry on clients says:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\BITS]
"EnableBitsMaxBandwidth"=dword:00000001
"MaxBandwidthValidFrom"=dword:00000004
"MaxBandwidthValidTo"=dword:00000017
"MaxTransferRateOnSchedule"=dword:00000019
"MaxTransferRateOffSchedule"=dword:00000019
"EnablePeercaching"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\BITS\Throttling]
"EnableBandwidthLimits"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\BITS\Throttling\NonWorkSchedule]
"HighBandwidthLimit"=dword:00000019
"HighBandwidthType"=dword:00000001
"NormalBandwidthLimit"=dword:00000019
"NormalBandwidthType"=dword:00000001
"LowBandwidthLimit"=dword:00000019
"LowBandwidthType"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\BITS\Throttling\WorkSchedule]
"StartDay"=dword:00000001
"EndDay"=dword:00000000
"StartHour"=dword:00000004
"EndHour"=dword:00000017
"HighBandwidthLimit"=dword:00000019
"HighBandwidthType"=dword:00000001
"NormalBandwidthLimit"=dword:00000019
"NormalBandwidthType"=dword:00000001
"LowBandwidthLimit"=dword:00000019
"LowBandwidthType"=dword:00000001

Problem Updates are not throttling and go in full speed. It's not on all clients, but quite lots of them. WSUS not running in foreground mode.

I something misconfigured?

Thanks,

Ronald

Hi There,

I have two offline WSUS 3.0 which both are failing to download patch since June 20th.  I have tried everything I can find from the web and still getting the "fail download some update" error.

I export the package from the edge WSUS and import to my offline one without and issue.

The event id in the application log is 10032.

Please help......

Cannot import updates into WSUS from Microsoft Update Catalog

Hello,

I am trying to import SQL Server Cumulative Updates into WSUS on Windows Server 2012 R2. In WSUS, I have all of the SQL products selected, as well as all of the classifications (feature packs, updates, service packs, etc.) selected.

When I try to import the Cumulative Updates (Like KB3144517) into WSUS, the "Import" button is greyed out and I get the error "This update cannot be imported into Windows Server Update Services, because it does not have the required applicability information."

Is there anything I may have misconfigured on my end, or a solution to fix this problem?

Thank you

(SOLVED) How to move WSUS Content to network Share on Server 2012R2

Symptom: WSUS Clients detect updates but will not download them after moving content folder to network share.  Error in EventViewer and WindowsUpdate.log is WSUS Content folder not found.

Assuming a working WSUS setup using local WsusContent before beginning these steps.

I wanted to share my WSUS conversion solution switching from local storage to a network share to prove it is it possible. I also moved my SUSDB database to a SQL Cluster, but that should not be required to move the Content folder.

  • Run WSUS Postinstall again. My example is:

go to directory where wsusutil is:  cd "\Program Files\Update Services\Tools"

Run command:

wsusutil postinstall content_dir=\\backup\Windows_Updates  sql_instance_name=sql\db  (this is my SQL cluster)

At this point WSUS clients can check for and discover updates but not download them. The next steps fix downloading of updates.

  • Next edit the registry: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Shares\WsusContent ChangeWsusContent REG_MULTI_SZ from D:\WsusContent to \\Backup\Windows_Updates\WsusContent

  •  In the same place, ChangeUpdateServicesPackages to new location as well. Mine was \\Backup\Windows_Updates\UpdateServicesPackages

  • The postinstall not only missed the registry changes above, it also messes up the IIS Content virtual directory.  To fix, open IIS Manager, expand Sites, find site with Content folder. Right-click Content, Manage virtual directory, Advanced Settings and change Physical Path to \\backup\windows_updates\wsusContent\ – The leading backslashes were missing on mine.

  • In this same spot, also set permissions to the network share to use proper credentials, I used domain admin.  Right click Content -> Manage Virtual Directory -> Advanced Settings…   Physical Path Credentials, click “…” on right side.  Select specific user, click Set… add something you know will work on the network share.

  • Reboot WSUS server and updates should start downloading to clients.

Computer (Win7) not showing in WSUS (on 2008r2) Tried many things

I have a computer that was added to the domain a couple of months ago, but no matter what I do it will not show up in the WSUS.  I have tried so many things that were recommended both on this and other websites that I have lost count.  Does anyone have a sure fire way to force a pc to show up on the WSUS?

The computer is covered by a GPO that should have it checking the WSUS at least daily (at 3:00am), but it does not.  Out of 115 computers, this is the only one with a problem.  I have tried forcing it to report, resetting it, etc.

Please help!  Thank you in advance for your assistance.
