WSUS Breaks after KB3159706, released 5/5/2016

Hey all, just installed KB3159706 on my WS 2012 R2 WSUS Server at 2PM on 5/5/2016.  This was supposed to fix/issues when KB3148812 was released a few weeks ago.  Don't install KB3159706, it breaks WSUS.

C'mon Microsoft, get your stuff together.  I'm tired of this amateur hour BS.

On 10/26/16 I installed KB 3125574 on a win 7 64bit ultimate system and installed correctly. I went to get security updates again and the wups wants to install another wups.dll update? Where can I see what its going to install? I was hoping to just get security updates and no win 10 updates!

Cannot load synchronization tab on WSUS console Server 2016

I have a new Windows Server 2016 Standard install along with WSUS and all Windows Updates.  It was synchronizing and it was at about 98%.  The next time I looked at it, there was a connection error.  Now everything seems to be working fine except for the Synchronization tab.

Every time I click on the synchronization tab, it says "Loading synchronization history: 0% complete" and stays at 0 until the same connection error appears as shown below:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

Microsoft Update server list

Our security group limits the FQDNs that our WSUS can connect to as well as the limiting the TCP ports to 80 and 443.  The WSUS has been working fine until the end of October 2016, when about 90% of the synchronizations started to fail.  If the WSUS is allowed to connect to any IP on TCP 80/443, the synchronizations work fine. Some of the IP addresses that the WSUS is connecting to don't match the FQDNs listed here https://technet.microsoft.com/cs-cz/library/bb693717.aspx.

Has the list of Update FQDNs changed? Is there an updated list of FQDNs or am I missing something else?

WSUS Servers - Issues

I have 400 computers along with 21 servers that I need to make sure stay updated.  I decided to use WSUS.  I installed in on Windows Server 2008 r2 / 32bit computer.  All the computers initially except 180 connected to the WSUS server and reported.  I set up automatic updates to download and update at 2:00 pm on a weekday where the company closes early.  The first day half of the computers got updated.  Now I am looking to do this again and I see that I have 56 computers that have not  yet reported!!  I have my GPO set up in my domain server to search every 10 hours and I also have at least 100 that have not connected in 7 days.  I really need some help getting this fixed.  I know I have some clients that have the 0x8024400E error when trying to search for updates, so they are failing.  I can't seem to find a reason or a fix for this error.  I have did the stop the service and deleting the softwaredistribution folder and restarting, still  not working.

I really need some help here.

Security Only Quality Updates for November - superseded already?

$

For reasons beyond control, we are a place that only deploys the Security Only Quality Updates. Not the monthly "rollups" that were introduced in October.

Having just completed my WSUS syncs everywhere, I go into SCCM to make my update list, and low and behold, my search folder is not picking up any of the Security Only updates for 2008R2 and 2012/2012 R2. Turns out they're already superseded.

Example:

November, 2016 Security Only Quality Update for Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB3197873)

Updates superseding this update: November, 2016 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2012 (3197874)

So what gives?... is that intentional? Is my hand being forced so soon that I am unable to continue down the Security Only path? Or is this a mistake and I just need to re-sync again in a couple of hours?

Tired of being watched

In October 2015 someone used my PayPal account to purchase a USB HID device from a software company in Texas and at the same time, a device showed up on my control panel.  I am pretty sure the party responsible has had access to all my info and probably has been listening and watching all my activity.  In January or February the device changed to a USB HID Touch controller which is located on a USB HID device according to the device manager list.  In addition to lack of privacy, I have to deal with thousands of files, altering of my network access, and applications and settings, etc.  All security, antivirus, and antimalware programs I have used do not see any problem.  The remote support techs for my carrier deny the possibility that I have been hacked. I have found  many things  including lots of sibling and child items listed on device manager, administrator permissions for SYSTEM and another listed as initials.  My ethernet and wireless access is repeatedly changed from private to public, and currently SYSTEM is listed as the owner of all  the wireless, Ethernet,  and  Bluetooth connections on my control panel.  Recently any phone, tablet or laptop I add to my system is also actively affected immediately.  I am unable to get an effective factory reset on any device because files and other items are always still there after reset.  How can I get rid of the hackers/stalkers  or whatever they are?

Windows Update Not Working on 3 WS2012R2 Machines?

Hi Guys,

This is the first time I've come to the forums for help.

If anyone else has any experience with a similar issue and has a fix it would be much appreciated.

I've got a customer server setup that has WS2012R2 STD running as a host, for HyperV and Backup purposes. But I'd still like to keep the host updated,

2 of the HyperV guests are WS2012R2 STD machines also.

None of these 3 units are getting Windows Update's, I've checked all firewall rules, and there is no issues there,

However I came across a powershell script that I could use that checks outstanding updates and downloads + installs via PS. But this is a manual solution and needs to be run again from the beginning after every restart.

I know it's a very open ended question but any assistance or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

KB3172985 and Google Cloud Print

So we are in an education setting. We use Windows 10 Pro and google cloud print. Today, a large majority of us were not able to print using google cloud print. I quickly found this:

https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/omdLlyyPCu0;context-place=forum/chrome

Where users state that the google cloud print installation errors out. Which leads to most of us uninstalling google cloud print and trying to reinstall and this is where we encounter the error. After you install a windows update (i was never able to find the specified update), the install succeeds and printing resumes. However, we use WSUS and with Windows 10 the updates happen automatically which reinstalls the update that was removed. I know i can stop the update install but the issue is, the update to stop on the WSUS server does not appear to be the same across systems. So, i wanted to check here and see if anybody has reported this issue and if not, see if anyone has any ideas as to what is going on?

Background:

Server 2008 r2 enterprise

WSUS 3.0 Sp2

KB 2734608

sql server 2008 R2 SP3

Problem: when I click on "Synchronizations" or "All updates" it shows loading 99% takes several minutes and the connections displays "connection error". The following error below is in event viewer. How do I fix this?

I have reinstalled wsus + IIS and restarted multiple times.

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

WSUS 2012 R2 - Windows 10 Anniversary Update failing to install with error 0x8024200D

$

Hi Guys,

I am having trouble pushing the AU to my Windows 10 clients from WSUS on Windows Server 2012 R2.

When the Windows 10 client does a check for updates, it sees the "Feature Update to Windows 10 Pro, version 1607, en-gb", but then returns a message that states:

"There were problems installing some updates, butwe'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:"

It does not give an error code on the update page itself, but looking in event viewer, I see an event as per the below:

Error, Event ID 20, Category - Windows Update Agent.

Text: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200D: Feature update to Windows 10 Pro, version 1607, en-gb

Can anyone advise what this means? I installed the WSUS hotfix to allow it to work with Windows 10 updates, and ran the manual servicing operation that was involved. Is this related to the IIS mime types?

Appreciate any advice you can offer.

Cheers, Eds

Anyone can explain why Windows 10 1607 client can't download WSUS updates ?

WSUS is install on Windows Server 2012 R2 Server.

When a Windows 10 client detect a Windows 10 (1607 only) update on WSUS, client can't download every update ( Windows or other)

If there are only Office update everything works good.

LanguageFeatureOnDemand - Available, not install

Hello,

I have a set of WSUS servers; a "master" and 2 downstream set in replica. I have selected couple of microsoft products, one of them being windows 10 feature on demand.

I have many sites in different languages; I wanted to have these languages available to every site (and I have enabled individual languages to those downstream servers).

Now, my question is, I have all these feature on demand for windows 10 which I would like them to be AVAILABLE if we need them in windows update, but I do not want them to be pushed automatically; in other words, if someone go in windows update, he can download said updates, but I do not want all 15946546165 languages to be installed on all computers.

Do I approve all updates? Do I decline them? How can I do that?

Best regards,

quality rollup vs. security only update question

$

I have a question regarding the new monthly quality rollup and security only update patches for Server 2012 R2 (KB3185331 and KB3192392).

We decided to approve the monthly quality rollup (KB3185331 ) via WSUS.  The approval and application to the servers appears to have went fine.  The problem is that even after applying the monthly quality rollup, the servers are still asking for the security only update (KB3192392) in WSUS.

As we are still testing in a dev environment, we went ahead and approved the security only update as well.  The servers happily grab it, install, and request a reboot (keep in mind this is after they have already had the quality rollup applied and rebooted).

My belief was that the monthly quality rollup contained all of the security patches - so why are the servers still asking to install the security only update as well?

Thanks -

Dear Colleagues ,

We have a windows 2008 native domain . We are using a windows 2008 R2 server as host for WSUS service version 3.2.7600.226 .

The windows 2008 R2 servers , windows 2012 R2 servers receive the updates from WSUS server instantly BUT the issue is with Win7 clients.

Win7  clients appear in WSUS console with 0 percent  and no more response and does not receive any update from server. We have also installed windows update agent version 7.6.7601.19161 .

On clients below commands had been executed with administrator right

wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow /scannow /reportnow

we had deleted/recreated  C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution folder on client Pcs too  .

Any help , Comments or recommendation is highly appreciated.

With Powershell, how to approve "Updates are approved for a specific group" to other group

$

Hi!

I´m running scheduled tasks to approve patches to different groups at different times.

The tasks run Powershell like this:

Get-WsusUpdate -Classification All -Approval Approved -Status Any | Approve-WsusUpdate -Action Install -TargetGroupName "My_Target"

What I would like to do is:

Approve "Updates are approved for a specific group" ( let´s say "Test_group") for "My_Target"

Any way to do this?

Thx,

Tommi
