Re-Index WSUS 3.0 data base script error

$

I am attempting to follow post: Re-index the WSUS 3.0 Database URL: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/6f8cde49-5c52-4abd-9820-f1d270ddea61#content

I created a .TXT file of the Visual Basic script by copy/paste into notepad & verified I got it all.

I am using internal database on Server2012R2 std for WSUS.

I made a .TXT file of the execute command line as c:\WSUS-cleanup-script.txt

I downloaded and installed on WSUS server the ODBC driver 11 and SQLCMD Utils.

I opened a elevated cmd prompt on the server and pasted the following command and executed:

sqlcmd -S np:\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query –i C:\WSUS_cleanup_script.txt\WsusDBMaintenance.sql

I get Unexpected argument error.

I tried the command with -I as it says in the post, still unexpected error

I tried the command as .cmd for the pasted WSUS_cleanup_script, still unexpected error

I tried the command without a .extension for the pasted WSUS_cleanup_script, still unexpected error

the error message is non-specific. what do I need to do to fix this? WSUS is very SLOW.

Thanks

John

WSUS Connection Error when trying to view all updates

$

0

Hello,

ive recently started getting Error: Connection Error when trying to view all updates within WSUS. and cannot work out how to resolve this.

to give some more information

i have x2 WSUS servers (1 is setup as a downstream server and doesnt recieve the error). the main server is the one in question. i am able to view computer information and how many updates are needed etc, i dont get any sync issues reported. reports are sent out daily and new updates sync with both servers when available. i only receive the error when i try to view anything within the Updates section. which is what i need in order to approve and assign any new updates that are available.

when i check the event log, the following event is listed

Event 7032

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

i have checked services and restarted them, plus re-booted the server all with no joy

Help!!

thanks in advance

WSUS 2012R2 server does not appear to be using BITS

We have noticed our WSUS server is having a high impact on our LAN performance, on investigation It looks to me like connections to our WSUS server are going over normal HTTP/IIS and not through BITS.

When I look at the BITS queue in powershell it is empty, yet resource manager shows many clients connected and downloading from IIS

The only way we can improve performance on our LAN is to restrict the bandwidth used by the IIS site

Is this the same for other people running a 2012R2 Wsus server, is your BITS queue empty ?

Newly Imaged Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise Clients Can't Update from Internal WSUS 2008R2 Server - Error 0x80072ee2

$

0

Problem: newly imaged Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise clients can't update from our internal WSUS server for their initial update.  I say initial, because if I select Windows Update, the computer will update after about 6 hours (290+ patches).  From that point forward, it seems to work fine with the internal server.  All clients the have been updating continue to update fine.

Environment: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 image with Office 2013 - no patches have been applied to the WIM

Deployment scenario: via WDS 2008R2

Steps I have tried

  1. Stopped the windows update client and delete the software distribution directory - didn't help
  2. Installed the latest Windows Update client
  3. Resource utilization on the WSUS server doesn't appear to be problematic
  4. WSUS best practice analyzer thinks everything is well
  5. The WSUS database and application are tuned weekly (SQL indexes maintained, etc).

Annoying Windows 10 1607 feature fails to install for client

So we pushed out an earlier versions of Windows 10 not 1511, but version before that through sccm (we're testing the upgrades) for my test machine i keep getting stuck in a loop of retry when trying to install the feature of Windows 10 1607 version. This seems to block everything else for updates.

Error in event log

“Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8000FFFF: Feature update to Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1607, en-us.”

Things tried

installed hot fix  KB3095113

this seems to help a bit but i get to 30% of the install for WIN 10 1607 and it fails to retry and error message above

I also added

MIME -type for esd application/octet-stream’

I did open a ticket with Microsoft so will see what they say, any help much appreciated.

Hi,

I hope somebody can help me with this problem, I have spent two weeks on it now and lost a lot of sleep!

I have a clean install of Server 2016 Essentials with all updates applied. All my clients are running Windows 10, again with all updates applied. I have correctly configured Group Policy as per all the guides on the internet. If I disable 'Specify intranet Microsoft update service location', in the policy all the clients and the server connect direct to Microsoft update ok. When I enable the policy all the clients and the server report back with the following error when they try to connect to WSUS:-

There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x8024401c)

The clients are listed in the Update Services window with correct IP and software but with the status of 'Not yet reported'.

I had no problem when I was running Server 2012 R2. I have done a clean install of Windows 10 on one of the clients and also re-installed Server 2016 as well as the WSUS service a couple of times, but I get the same problem all of the time.

I have reached the end of my knowledge (no expert on this!) but I think it seems as if the clients and server are not talking to IIS. My IIS seems to be ok as Anywhere Access is configured and working correctly.

I hope somebody can help me with this please.

Client receiving error messages

I have noticed this issue after I have deployed Anniversary Update using WSUS. Clients are now receiving the below error message after 'check for updates' is selected.

'There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x8024500c)'

Has the duplicate SUSClientID Issue Been Addressed Or Solved?

$

This was an issue when I worked with WSUS a couple years ago.  I know there is workaround to run a batch file to reset the IDs, but has a better solution created?  Has an updated Windows Update Agent or updated Sysprep tool or anything else solved the issue?  Is it only an issue with third party cloning tools like Ghost or does Microsoft's own cloning solutions such as ImageX/WDS etc. have the same issue of not stripping or resetting the WSUS client ID?

Seems like the issue should be solved at the source rather than doing workarounds as shown in the link below forever:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/sus/archive/2009/05/05/resolving-the-duplicate-susclientid-issue-or-why-don-t-all-my-clients-show-up-in-the-wsus-console.aspx

There are a few different links for the wsusscn2.cab file. What is the best place to find the latest one from MS? Do they update the same link with the newest version, or do they make new connections.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607)

Anyone can explain why Windows 10 1607 client can't download WSUS updates ?

WSUS is install on Windows Server 2012 R2 Server.

When a Windows 10 client detect a Windows 10 (1607 only) update on WSUS, client can't download every update ( Windows or other)

If there are only Office update everything works good.

WSUS clients appear then disappear in console

I have a network with approx. 120 machines on it and WSUS only reports 90. The machines that are not reported in WSUS are in the proper OU so they are getting the Group Policy they should to tell the machines to call the WSUS server. I login to each workstation and type in CLI wuauclt.exe /detectnow and then the machine appears in the WSUS console, but then the amount of machines in the list does not, so I do a comparison of the list of machines before I run this command on an offending machine  and after and I find that the machine that I just typed in the command replaces a machine in the list with a machine that had the command ran on it recently. DO you have any suggestions for this issue so I can track all the machines updates in WSUS more effectivly. Thanks.

Windows 10 is not updating with WSUS

Hello,

I have a WSUS Server (Windows Server 2012 R2) and a Windows 10 Client (1511) running in my Network.

Client side on the Windows 10 Computer it feels like all Updates are installed and everthing is ok. If I search for new Updates, Windows tells me that there are no new updates.

On Server side, inside the WSUS Console I can see that excatly the same client has 118 Updates (!) remaining. Last contact to the Server was today?!

Now I tried this allready (client side):

  • I run the command: wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
  • I deleted this Registry Keys:
    REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientId /f
    REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientIdValidation /f
  • I run again this command: wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
  • I deleted the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution directory

And I tried this server side:

I installed this Windows8.1-KB3095113-x64.msu and this Windows8.1-KB3095113-v2-x64.msu Update to enable Windows 10 on older Server Installations.

After that all with no result I activated those Group Policy configurations:

  • Do not connect to any Windows Update Internet locations: activated
  • Defer Upgrades and Updates: activated

This gpo's didn't help so I decided to read the logs on the Client Computer, which is not easy if you have an Windows 7 Administrative Computer. So followed this Blog Entry, and decrypted the logs:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\bin\x64\tracefmt.exe" -o "D:\Logs\WindowsUpdate\WindowsUpdate.20160727.101538.435.1.etl.log" "D:\Logs\WindowsUpdate\WindowsUpdate.20160727.101538.435.1.etl" -r "D:\Symbols\windows_10"

The first problem is that there is mass of Unknown Entrys but the remaining entrys look good enough that it seems that there is no problem.

How can I solve this problem?

Heres another Log where Windows 10 Updates itself, maybe more interesting:

Windows Server 2012 + WSUS + RapidSSL wildcard certificate

Hello,
I have a question. Can I use RapidSSL wildcard certificate for securing my WSUS (6.2.9200.17646)? I have no domain CA and I have a bad experience with self-signed certificates. Can I use RapidSSL wildcard certificate? Is this supported scenario?

Thanks!

How to remove computers from WSUS console pushed through GPO

Hi,

I have 3 WSUS servers running in autonomous mode in 3 different sites. Each site has its own OU of computers. Each OU has its own GPO with its site WSUS server. I have moved few computers from OU of site A to OU of site B. Now those computer objects are still appearing in WSUS console of site A.

As per my understanding computers should remove automatically from WSUS of site A after their OU is changed. If I have to remove them manually from WSUS console of site A too?

Thanks

Dis-Integrate SCCM and WSUS

Hi All,

We are approaching a client, to proposed to them our solution.

They already have an instance of SCCM 2012 running on their network, and they integrate the WSUS together.

Our solution is to manage their patching and updates, and we prefer to not touch their current SCCM at all.

Is there a way to dis-integrate SCCM 2012 - WSUS installation, and install a standalone WSUS v3 on the network?
